In this new brief we were split in to a team of four and asked to choose a subject and then create five A1 size posters reflecting that subject.
I was placed in a team with Vallence, Logan and Dez. The subject we choose was 'freedom of speech'
"Freedom of speech is the right to communicate one's opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship. As a team we realized very early on that to portray freedom of speech onto a poster was a difficult task and everything we researched was very cliché or had been done before.

Of coarse there are many more images to do with freedom of speech, a lot to do with protesting and equality, but again, to show these things we felt that this had already been shown and we wanted to try and come from a different angle.
For this reason we wanted to try and provoke freedom of speech to our audience and enable them to have their own voice on the subject matter within the poster.
To do this we brainstormed ideas that were controversial in some way and that had a good pull for both sides of the argument.

The final ideas we choose were Racism, Sexism, Religion, Child abuse, and suicide.
Racism:
For Racism we came up with some ideas on how to portray racism. Because we have Logan in our group we decided to use his talents as a photographer and photograph our images as we wanted them to show real life, and give a genuine feeling towards the viewer. We thought of some ideas and finally went with a fight scene and the statement that 'everyone is a racist'.

For religion we wanted to show the issue that the bible could have been written by people on drugs. When people talk of religion it is always controversial and we all have to except that we may never know what the real truth of it is. Therefore to say some of these messengers of god were "on something" is hard to deny as well as hard to accept.

10 commandments - dissecting a commandment in a way that provokes something,

This in particularly was never meant to offend in anyway, but to give the audience the thought of having your own right to take your life. And having that argument of 'well, is it courageous to do so, or is it stupid'?

I think we did push the boundaries a little on the final image, but i think it is necessary not to shy away from subjects such as this when we know its a issue here in New Zealand and everywhere around the world.
Child abuse.
Child abuse is another subject close to the hearts of New Zealanders as we have so many child related deaths due to beatings or neglect. We wanted to go for a broad spectrum and allow for the audience to hopefully bring up the anti-smacking bill. Or to even protest that Yes to discipline your child is fair enough. Where is the line in this area? Can you discipline with a fist? It was fairly straight forward what image we wanted to give and the quote of 'My child my right' fitted for this scene we were portraying.

Sexism
Our final poster was to do with sexism. Even now there are men who treat women as a lower class being. So we wanted to show this in a darogatively way. We did this by showing a image of a women licking the bottom of a mans shoe. We also placed the quote "know your place" to enforce this.
